How to Choose Useful Android Apps

A short framework for deciding which apps to install, especially for finance, tools, and productivity, without endorsing any single product.

Source and updates

Prefer installing from the official app store. Check last update date and whether the developer responds to user feedback. Long gaps without updates can be a red flag for some categories.

Permissions

If an app requests access that does not match its function (e.g. excessive contacts or SMS for a simple widget), think twice. You can often deny or limit permissions in system settings after install.

Reviews and ratings

Read recent 1- and 2-star reviews for recurring issues, not just the top lines. Be aware that fake reviews exist; look for specific, varied language.

Data and account deletion

Check the privacy policy for what data is collected, whether you can delete your account, and how to contact support before you need them in a dispute.
