What to Check Before Applying for an Online Loan
Use this checklist to review any credit or loan product before you submit an application. Rules and product names differ by lender; read the offer that applies to you.
Eligibility and documentation
- Age, income, and employment requirements as stated by the lender
- ID, payslips, or bank statements the lender will ask for
- Whether a soft or hard credit check is used, if disclosed
Cost of borrowing
Look for the annualized rate, flat fees, admin charges, and late-payment penalties. A lower headline number may not mean a lower total cost if fees stack.
Repayment schedule
Confirm installment amount, due dates, and how you will pay (auto-debit, virtual account, e-wallet, etc.). Check what happens if you pay early or miss a date.
Provider legitimacy
Prefer licensed, regulated providers where that applies. Verify contact details and official apps from the lender’s own website or app store listing—not from random ads.
